About
I am a music historian and music critic, and have been teaching at Augustana since 2006; before coming to Augustana, I was an assistant professor in the department of music at the University of Prince Edward Island. I hold a doctorate in historical musicology from the University of Toronto, and an MA in music criticism from McMaster University. I teach a wide variety of courses, from music history surveys to senior undergraduate topics courses, to harmony, analysis, and aesthetics.
My main area of interest is the music of Arnold Schoenberg and the Second Viennese School. I'm also interested in the relationship between music and psychoanalysis. At present, I'm doing some research on Haydn reception in the early 20th century, on popular music (specifically on the advent of gothic rock in the late 70s-early 80s) and on music in zombie cinema.
